In 2019, Adam represented the United States at the Korean International Ceramic Biennale and at the Annual exhibition at the National Council of Educators on the Ceramic Arts Conference. In 2012, Adam completed a residency at Strathnairn Art Association in Canberra, Australia. Artist Statement

My work has a solid foundation in material and process. I am drawn to the color, texture, and feel of clay. Clay has the ability to be soft and record marks and movement while also transforming into a hard stone-like material vulnerable to cracks and breakage. The broken or fractured are often seen as flawed or damaged. In my work, I encourage and manipulate the material to accentuate these “flaws”. I believe that these visual elements give a sense of introspection to the viewers own personal experience in life.

I have cultivated this aesthetic from my travels abroad in Europe, Asia, and Australia and my time living in New York City. I derive my conceptual ideas from environmental and political landscapes and respond to my surroundings in whichever setting I find myself in, both physically and mentally.

I have researched and developed my technique, in which I use dry powdered clays formed into molds then fired to peak temperature to ensure a solid object. During this process, the clay responds to the heat and stress of the kiln to create fractures and surface texture. I see this way of working as cyclical and returning to the essentials of artmaking and finding the essence of the material and its structure.
